It is no longer news that there is a directive for all bulk SMS service providers to comply with the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirement from the NCC. In line with that, we have been receiving applications for Sender ID registration from all our bulk SMS users.
Submission of the Sender ID(s) though is just the first step. The submitted ID is subjected to approval from the network providers. Hence, there are cases whereby a submitted Sender ID does not get approved.
This can be avoided if you adhere to the following guidelines and requirements:
1.Submit a Unique Sender ID
The ultimate goal of this registration process is to identify all bulk SMS users and be able to associate them with the messages they send. Therefore, it is imperative that the Sender ID you submit to be registered is unique to you or your organization.
Unique sender IDs would mean that you are using a name or identity that is not yours or that is associated with a different company, agency, or group. An example of a Sender ID that cannot be unique is GTB. A sender ID like this has no chance of getting approved.
2. Don’t Submit a Phone Number
Generally, the kind of Sender IDs that are accepted for approval and registration are alphabetical. That being said, numeric Sender IDs are usually rejected as it does not align with the aim of the registration process.
Therefore, to increase the chances of approval, avoid the use of numeric Sender IDs or phone numbers but stick with a name that identifies your company or organization.
3. Provide Accurate Information During Submission
You can be sure that whatever information you provide during the submission process would be properly vetted by the GSM operators who give approval. Therefore, avoid manipulating information about your business or providing inaccurate data.
If you are found culpable of this, there is a big chance that your application would not receive approval.
Strict adherence to these guidelines will ensure your application for Sender ID registration does not get rejected by the network operators, but rather gets approved within the specified 3-5 business days.
